Community Based Program

The goal of this program is to provide educational, leisure and community integration activities. This Melbourne based program is offered Monday - Friday from 9:00 - 3:00, although program participants decide which days to attend. During a daily morning meeting, program participants choose from an array of activities to include bowling, line dancing, volunteering, shopping, tennis and horse back riding. Other options include going to the zoo, plays and other special activities offered throughout the community.

Program participants normally return to the Center for lunch before heading out for afternoon activities. The program staff provide training and assistance in the attainment of personal goals such as handling money, learning a new leisure activity, and developing appropriate social skills while in the community.

Program participants must have the ability to be in a program where the client to staff ratio is three to one, and have a desire to participate in community-based activities.
