World of Work (WOW)

World of Work is a career exploration program assisting in the transitional needs of middle school students in ESE (Exceptional Student Education) classes in Brevard County Public Schools. Brevard Achievement Center staff work closely with administrators, teachers and local businesses to help students explore vocational opportunities in their communities.

Local businesses and employers provide support by:

• Participating as speakers in the classroom explaining jobs and discussing the skills and training needed to be employed in such jobs.
  
  
• Conducting company tours. Small groups of four to six students, along with a BAC staff member and a School Board Employee, have a personal tour of a variety of local industries and have an opportunity to interact directly with employees of the business.

These valuable experiences give students a realistic, firsthand look at workplace expectations. Following the tours, students return to their classrooms where the jobs are discussed, analyzed and shared with their classmates. Since students visit different businesses, sharing information is beneficial to the entire class.
